Greece · Europe
Chalkidiki, the three-pronged peninsula south of Thessaloniki, is northern Greece's main beach destination. The climate resembles the Aegean standard: hot summers of 28–32°C, barely any rain from May to September and clear blue water at 24–26°C. The bays of the middle finger (Sithonia) with their fine white sand are among the most beautiful in the European Mediterranean.
High season in July to August brings many Greeks from Thessaloniki to the sea — the beaches of Kassandra (first finger) are then full, while Sithonia remains quieter. One advantage over Greek islands: Chalkidiki is reachable by car and has restaurants and accommodation open even in the shoulder season.
