South Africa (Cape Town) – What you should know

Cape Town enjoys one of the world's finest climates: Mediterranean, mild and sun-drenched. Summer (November to March) is hot and dry with temperatures typically between 24°C and 26°C — ideal for beach days at Camps Bay or Boulders Beach. Winter (June to August) is cool and rainy (typically 12–17°C), but rarely cold enough to rule out outdoor activities.

The Cape Wind — a powerful south-easterly locally called the "Cape Doctor" — is a defining part of Cape Town's climate. It sweeps regularly across Table Bay in summer, cooling the city pleasantly, but can complicate boat trips to Robben Island or Cape Point. On Table Mountain it blows particularly strongly and creates the characteristic "tablecloth" of cloud.

The wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek enjoy a Mediterranean wine-growing climate and benefit from the combination of solar warmth and cooling night temperatures — ideal for the grape harvest from February to April. Nature lovers should come in spring (September/October), when the fynbos heathland blooms in countless colours and whales can be spotted in Walker Bay with their calves.
