The best time to visit Brazil (Iguaçu) is August and September. In summer, daytime highs average 32°C (90°F), with peaks around 36°C (97°F); in winter, nights average 12°C (54°F), dropping to around 1°C (34°F) on the coldest. All climate data are based on historical monthly averages (2005–2025) to help you plan the optimal travel time.
Iguaçu Falls lie in the subtropical border region of Brazil and Argentina, and the climate is humid all year: between 70 and 190 mm (2.8 and 7.5 in) of rain falls in every month, and no truly dry month exists. Temperatures vary more than in the tropics. From December to February daytime highs average around 31–32°C (88–90°F) in muggy air, and on the hottest days around 36°C (97°F).
In winter, from June to August, daytime highs average only 22–25°C (72–77°F) and nights cool to 12–13°C (54–55°F); on the coldest nights in July it is around 2°C (36°F). August is the most favourable month, with around 71 mm (2.8 in) on four rain days and 7.2 hours of sunshine, and September, averaging 27°C (81°F), is still pleasant. October is the wettest month of the year, with around 190 mm (7.5 in) on nine rain days, and therefore less recommended.
The water level of the falls depends on rainfall in the catchment area: in the wet season much larger masses of water thunder down, at high water access to individual walkways can be closed, and the water looks brown. In the drier season visibility is clearer, the walkways are easier to use, and the Devil's Throat (Garganta do Diabo) remains impressive regardless. Visiting both sides is worthwhile, the Brazilian with its panoramic view and the Argentine with its paths close to the falls; allow two days for that.

From January to November, UV levels in Brazil (Iguaçu) reach 9 — very high on the WHO scale. High-SPF sunscreen and shade around midday are essential.
February offers great weather in Brazil (Iguaçu) with fewer tourists and lower prices — ideal for those who want to avoid the peak season crowds.
Summer in jungle heat: the air hangs still, thunderstorms break and the water masses of the falls are mighty, the spray visible from afar. Crowds arrive in the holiday weeks, and a rain poncho is a constant companion. In return the jungle is at its lushest, with butterflies and coatis everywhere.
Autumn brings cooling: the mugginess fades, the days are mild and the jungle is still green. Mornings can be misty and the paths are quiet. From June it is fresh enough for a jacket, the flow slowly drops and visitor numbers stay low.
The most pleasant time to visit: little rain, clear views, mild days and pleasantly few mosquitoes. The walkways can be strolled in peace and the falls show themselves in good visibility, often with rainbows in the spray. School holidays fall in July, when it is noticeably busier.
Spring returns with rain and heat: thunderstorms increase, the air turns humid and the volume of water grows. The jungle bursts into growth, birds breed and toucans are easy to spot. It is less busy than in summer, but rain protection belongs in the daypack.
