Budapest at the Danube bend has a continental climate with warm summers (25–30°C) and cold winters (0–4°C). Spring (April/May) and autumn (September/October) are the most beautiful travel months: a pleasant 18–22°C, the Danube promenade bathed in golden light and significantly fewer tourists than in high summer.
Summer offers the chance to use the famous outdoor thermal baths: Széchenyi and Gellért are very popular in summer. Thunderstorms are more frequent in July and August but usually brief. December and January occasionally bring snow to the Buda Castle terraces — an unforgettable sight over the wintry Danube.
