The best time to visit Lake Garda is June, July, August, and September. In summer, temperatures rise to 29°C; in winter they can drop to 0°C. All climate data are based on historical monthly averages (2005–2025) to help you plan the optimal travel time.
Lake Garda is Italy's largest lake and benefits from a unique microclimate: the surrounding mountains protect against cold northerly winds and create an almost Mediterranean climate for northern Italy. Olive trees, lemons and palm trees on the lakeside look like a preview of southern Italy — and it's only two hours from Munich.
The best travel time is April to October. Summer from June to August is warm at 27–30°C and the lake water reaches 24–25°C. Spring and autumn are ideal for cycling and hiking on the panoramic paths around Limone sul Garda and Riva del Garda. A trademark is the local lake winds: the morning "Peler" and the afternoon "Ora" make Lake Garda one of the finest sailing venues in Europe.
