The best time to visit Croatia (Istria) is June, July, August, and September. In summer, daytime highs average 30°C (86°F), with peaks around 35°C (95°F); in winter, nights average 2°C (36°F), dropping to around -4°C (25°F) on the coldest. During the best travel months, the sun shines up to 9 hours per day — ideal for beach and outdoor activities.
Istria, the heart-shaped peninsula in northern Croatia, has a more temperate climate than Dalmatia: summers of 24–28°C (75–82°F), clear Adriatic waters and over 2,500 sunshine hours a year. Towns such as Rovinj, Poreč and Pula combine medieval old towns with crystal-clear bays — without the overtourism problem of Dubrovnik.
The season reliably begins in early June and runs until early October. Spring and autumn are ideal for cycling and truffle hunting — Istria is Europe's truffle centre, and the harvest months of October and November attract food lovers from across Europe. The sea cools even in high summer to up to 26°C (79°F) — slightly cooler than Greece but crystal-clear and ideal for families.

May offers great weather in Croatia (Istria) with fewer tourists and lower prices — ideal for those who want to avoid the peak season crowds.
Istria in winter is grey and windy — the Bora sweeps the coast and the thermometer reads 10°C (50°F). Rovinj and Poreč are all but deserted, while inland the white truffle season winds down and the konobas fire up their stoves.
The hinterland comes alive: Motovun and Grožnjan on their hilltops, asparagus in every konoba, olive groves in fresh green. On the coast it is ideal for cycling at 18 to 22°C (64 to 72°F), though at 12 to 17°C (54 to 63°F) the sea is still cold.
High season: 27 to 30°C (81 to 86°F), the amphitheatre in Pula as a festival backdrop, the rock coves of Rovinj fully occupied. The water reaches 23 to 24°C (73 to 75°F), and the Brijuni Islands are worth the early boat transfer.
The Istrian autumn belongs to the food-minded: grape harvest, olive picking, and from October the white truffle around the Motovun forest. The sea holds 19 to 22°C (66 to 72°F) into October; November turns wet.
A Croatian public holiday in the middle of peak season. Pilgrimages and processions in the hill towns, packed beaches on the coast — the day Istria counts its highest visitor numbers of the year.
