Egypt is a year-round destination with one of the world's most reliable sunshine programmes. Hurghada and the Red Sea are particularly ideal in spring and autumn — water temperatures then sit at 22–26°C, air temperatures at a pleasant 24–30°C. In summer it can get very hot on the Red Sea (35–40°C), but sea breezes make the heat more bearable than inland.
Winter is the high season for the Red Sea: from October to April, Europeans seeking to escape the cold stream in — temperatures then sit at 20–25°C, and the water at 22–24°C is still pleasant for snorkelling and diving. Those who want to visit Cairo and the pyramids should travel from October to April, when temperatures are manageable for sightseeing.
