The Peloponnese, the peninsula south of Corinth, combines ancient sites (Olympia, Mycenae, Epidaurus) with beautiful coastlines. The coastal areas typically reach 30–33°C in summer; the interior — Arcadia, Mystras — stays noticeably cooler due to altitude. The best travel time for archaeology is April to June and September to October: temperatures of 20–27°C make longer sightseeing sessions comfortable.
The sea warms to 24–26°C from July to September — beach stays on the Mani coast or in the bay of Nafplio combine ideally with cultural tours. In high summer, sightseeing at ancient sites without an early morning start becomes torture. The Peloponnese is considerably less touristy than the islands — those who seek authentic Greece will find it here.
