Tel Aviv is a city-beach destination: the Bauhaus architecture of the White City, the old town of Jaffa and the promenade with beaches such as Gordon and Frishman lie within a few kilometres. The climate is Mediterranean with long, dry summers. From June to September virtually no rain falls, the sun shines 10–12 hours a day, and the sea reaches 30°C (86°F) in August.
High summer is hot and humid: in July and August daytime highs average 31–32°C (88–90°F), nights 24–25°C (75–77°F), and humidity 68–69%. For sightseeing the shoulder months are better, even though the summer months count as the best travel time: April, May, October and November bring 24–28°C (75–82°F) and plenty of sun. In spring a desert wind (sharav) can push temperatures to 36°C (97°F) on the hottest days.
Winter brings the rain: January is the wettest at 130 mm (5.1 in) over eight days, and December has 126 mm (5.0 in). Daytime highs are 18–20°C (64–68°F), the sea 17°C (63°F). Winter visitors should plan on cities, museums and day trips to Jerusalem. On Shabbat (Friday evening to Saturday evening) public transport stops in many parts of the country and many shops close. Tel Aviv in winter is green and damp: rain alternates with mild, sunny days, yet the promenade stays lively. The city's cafés and markets are full and surfers in wetsuits sit on the beach. It is ideal for city visits and museums.
Spring brings blossom, soft light and the first swimming days. The markets are full of strawberries and herbs and there is still room on the beach. Now and then a desert wind brings sudden heat, but otherwise it is the most pleasant time for strolling through the White City.
A beach summer without rain: the sea is bathwater-warm, the promenade is alive until late at night and people play matkot on Gordon Beach. The heat and humidity are noticeable, so the day starts early and ends late. Anyone planning sightseeing does it in the morning or evening.
Autumn brings a pleasant late-summer feeling: the sea is still warm, the beaches emptier and the air clearer. Towards the end of November the first rains and cooler evenings arrive. A good time for city walks and excursions.

The largest Pride parade in the Middle East starts at Gordon Beach and follows the beachfront promenade.
On the Day of Atonement the country stands still: no public transport, shops and restaurants closed, the airport shut. Many locals cycle on the car-free streets.
