Tenerife rightly earns its nickname "Island of Eternal Spring". The year-round mild climate with temperatures typically between 19°C and 28°C makes the largest Canary Island an ideal destination even outside peak season. The reason lies in its geographic position: Tenerife sits off the West African coast and is bathed by the cool Canary Current, which prevents extreme heat.
The island has two very different faces, however: the dry, sun-drenched south around Playa de las Américas contrasts with the green, occasionally overcast north. This is due to the trade wind, which piles up moist air on the slopes of Mount Teide. Those who want guaranteed sunshine choose the south — those who prefer lush nature and hiking choose the north.
Mount Teide (3,715 m) influences the climate across the entire island. In winter its summit is often beneath a thick layer of cloud while the coast stays sunny. This is precisely what makes Tenerife one of the few places in the world where you can see snow in the morning and lie on the beach in the afternoon.
