St. Lucia in the eastern Caribbean is one of the greenest islands in the region: the volcanic peaks of the Pitons rise to 770 metres and the lush vegetation lives on year-round mountain rainfall. For beach tourists, however, the west coast climate is dry and sunny — temperatures of 26–31°C and little rain from December to May.
The hurricane season (June to November) hits St. Lucia less frequently than the northern Caribbean islands, but October and November are the weakest travel months. Divers treasure the west coast around Soufrière year-round: visibility of 20–30 metres and colourful coral gardens right in front of the beach make it one of the best dive sites in the Lesser Antilles.
