Tyrol has a pronounced high-mountain climate: cool summers with 15–24°C in Innsbruck and noticeably colder at high altitudes, plus snow-reliable winters in ski resorts above 1,500 metres. The Föhn — a warm, dry southerly wind — is the most famous climate event in Tyrol: it raises temperatures in Innsbruck to unexpected heights of 20–25°C even in winter and creates spectacularly clear long-distance views of the Nordkette.
Tyrol is travelable year-round. Spring (April to May) brings the alpine bloom and first hiking opportunities, even if high-altitude areas still carry snow. Autumn (September/October) offers golden larch forests, quiet mountain huts and perfect conditions for via ferratas. The ski season at altitude usually begins at the end of November and runs until April.
