The Algarve is Europe's sun terrace — with over 300 sunny days a year, it is one of the most sun-drenched spots on the continent. The climate is mildly Mediterranean, though the Atlantic influences the region more strongly than the Mediterranean Sea: water temperatures in midsummer typically reach only 19–20°C — noticeably cooler than on Spain's Mediterranean coasts — and a fresh breeze often blows.
Spring and autumn are the insider tips: in April the Algarve blooms in deep yellow and white as mimosas and almond blossoms cover the hillsides. In October and November, golfers and hikers enjoy the pleasant weather at lower prices and near-empty beaches. Even in winter, daytime temperatures of 15–16°C on the south coast are not unusual.
Those who don't mind cold water can find excellent surfing conditions on the Algarve's west coast even in summer: the Atlantic brings powerful waves and water temperatures around 17–18°C — ideal for experienced surfers, but not for swimmers.

The best time to visit Algarve is May, June, July, August, and September. In summer, temperatures rise to 29°C; in winter they can drop to 9°C. During the best travel months, the sun shines up to 12 hours per day — ideal for beach and outdoor activities.
October offers great weather in Algarve with fewer tourists and lower prices — ideal for those who want to avoid the peak season crowds.
