July is among the best months in Cuba (Santiago de Cuba): only 3 rain days, 32°C (90°F) highs, and good sunshine make for ideal holiday conditions.
Daytime highs average 32°C (90°F), cooling to 25°C (77°F) at night (daily average: 28°C (82°F)). Peaks reach around 34°C (93°F), the coldest nights around 22°C (72°F). With 10 sunshine hours per day, July is one of the sunniest months — 40 mm (1.6 in) of rain over 3 days. The water is a warm 30°C (86°F) — perfect for snorkelling and swimming.
Pack light summer clothing, sunscreen, and swimwear — beach and water conditions in July are ideal.
High summer in Cuba's hottest city: the sun beats down, the sea is almost 30°C (86°F) and life shifts into the evening hours. In July the carnival turns the streets into a sea of drums, costumes and dance. Visitors need water, shade and patience.
A week of music, dance and folk culture from across the Caribbean, organised by the Casa del Caribe with a different guest country each year. It closes with the burning of a devil figure on the Alameda by the bay.
Cuba's most famous carnival: congas with drum sections and hundreds of dancers move through the neighbourhoods, joined by paseos with orchestras. The climax falls on the anniversary of the 1953 attack on the Moncada barracks.
