There is no bad time to visit Mexico (Los Cabos) — all twelve months are climatically recommendable. In summer, daytime highs average 33°C (91°F), with peaks around 36°C (97°F); in winter, nights average 17°C (63°F), dropping to around 11°C (52°F) on the coldest. During the best travel months, the sun shines up to 9 hours per day — ideal for beach and outdoor activities.
Los Cabos sits at the southern tip of Baja California, where the desert meets the Pacific and the Gulf of California. The climate is distinctly dry: from November to June usually only a few millimetres fall a month, sometimes practically nothing, with around 11 hours of sunshine a day in May. Daytime highs are around 25°C (77°F) in winter and 28°C (82°F) in April, and the nights are mild at about 17°C (63°F) in January.
Summer is hot and clearly more humid: in July and August daytime highs are around 33°C (91°F) with overnight lows around 26°C (79°F), and humidity rises to roughly 70%. August brings 84 mm (3.3 in) of rain on average and September the most with 114 mm (4.5 in), each across about eight days. The rain comes less as steady drizzle than in heavy showers. The eastern Pacific hurricane season runs from May to November, peaking from August to October; direct hits are rare, but storm warnings and cancelled excursions are possible.
The sea peaks at around 30°C (86°F) in September and falls to about 21°C (70°F) in March, which is still enough for swimming in winter but not for long days in the water. Anyone who mainly wants to swim should therefore come from May to October, and anyone who prefers hiking, golf and excursions is better off in winter and spring. From December to April grey whales and humpbacks pass along the coast, and whale watching is a fixture of the programme in that period. In December the days are noticeably shorter than in spring, with only a good 6 hours of sunshine a day.

From February to October, UV levels in Mexico (Los Cabos) reach 10 — very high on the WHO scale. High-SPF sunscreen and shade around midday are essential.
The desert is dry, the air pleasantly warm, and the sea is more for looking at than for long swims. Whales pass along the coast, boats leave at first light, and the golf courses along the Cabo corridor and the snorkelling reefs of Cabo Pulmo are at their best. Evenings are mild, never cold.
The shift towards summer: the sun stands high, it stays dry, and the water warms week by week. Beaches and fishing boats are in full swing while hotel prices ease. By June the humidity climbs noticeably, and the heat lingers in the room at night.
Hot, humid and with the warmest sea of the year: swimming and snorkelling are a pleasure now, and the hotels are emptier and cheaper. The rain, however, arrives in heavy downpours, and the hurricane season calls for flexible bookings. By October the weather gradually settles again.
Grey and humpback whales pass along the coast; tours are officially permitted from 15 December to 15 April, with January to March the best months.
One of the richest marlin fishing tournaments in the world, with around 170 boats; start and awards take place at the Cabo San Lucas marina.
