Deep off-season — very low prices, but weather conditions are suboptimal.
February is the coldest winter month in Estonia (Tallinn) — with highs of only -1°C (30°F), it holds little appeal for sun-seekers. Better travel in June, July, August, and September.
Temperatures reach a maximum of -1°C (30°F) during the day and drop to -6°C (21°F) at night — warm layers recommended. Peaks reach around 6°C (43°F), the coldest nights around -17°C (1°F) — frost does occur. With 3 sunshine hours per day and 7 rain days (63 mm (2.5 in)), this is one of the cloudier months. At 1°C (34°F), the water is still quite cool in February — a wetsuit may be useful.
Pack warm clothing and sturdy footwear. Cool temperatures make hiking and cultural trips enjoyable — beaches are off the agenda.
A proper winter: the Christmas market on Town Hall Square glitters, snow lies on the Old Town roofs and temperatures stay around or below freezing. Daytime highs are about -1°C (30°F), and in December the sun barely shines for half an hour. The lanes are slippery and the saunas hot.
