Deep off-season — very low prices, but weather conditions are suboptimal.
March is the coldest winter month in Estonia (Tallinn) — with highs of only 3°C (37°F), it holds little appeal for sun-seekers. Better travel in June, July, August, and September.
Temperatures reach a maximum of 3°C (37°F) during the day and drop to -3°C (27°F) at night — warm layers recommended. Peaks reach around 11°C (52°F), the coldest nights around -13°C (9°F) — frost does occur. With 5 sunshine hours per day and 6 rain days (74 mm (2.9 in)), this is one of the cloudier months. At 1°C (34°F), the water is still quite cool in March — a wetsuit may be useful.
Pack warm clothing and sturdy footwear. Cool temperatures make hiking and cultural trips enjoyable — beaches are off the agenda.
Tallinn thaws. In March winter still pushes back, April is dry with four rainy days, and in May the sun shines more than nine hours a day. Old Town cafés put their tables out, and the city belongs to the locals before high season.
