Lake Garda is Italy's largest lake and benefits from a unique microclimate: the surrounding mountains protect against cold northerly winds and create an almost Mediterranean climate for northern Italy. Olive trees, lemons and palm trees on the lakeside look like a preview of southern Italy — and it's only two hours from Munich.
The best travel time is April to October. Summer from June to August is warm at 27–30°C and the lake water reaches 24–25°C. Spring and autumn are ideal for cycling and hiking on the panoramic paths around Limone sul Garda and Riva del Garda. A trademark is the local lake winds: the morning "Peler" and the afternoon "Ora" make Lake Garda one of the finest sailing venues in Europe.
