Lake Maggiore – What you should know

July and August are warmest but bring regular heavy afternoon thunderstorms over the mountains. In winter, at 7°C (45°F) and barely four hours of sunshine in December, it is quiet and often foggy — most hotels and boat services pause then.

September is the best month: warm water, fewer people, the mountains above the western shore already autumnal. From October it turns damp and misty and the season runs out.
