Marrakech lies at the foot of the High Atlas and has a pronounced continental climate: hot, dry summers and cool, occasionally rainy winters. In high summer (July/August), the monthly average high temperature typically reaches 37–38°C, and the medina becomes a furnace during the day — heatwaves can push temperatures to 40°C+. Those who want to explore the souks and sights are best doing so in the early morning hours.
Spring and autumn are the golden seasons in Marrakech: from March to May and October to November, temperatures typically range between 20°C and 30°C — ideal for excursions into the surrounding countryside, visits to the historic gardens, and hikes in the Atlas. September, with a monthly average of 32°C, is still warm; from October it becomes more pleasant. In spring the rose gardens in the Dadès Valley bloom.
The Atlas Mountains visible on the horizon influence the city's climate: in winter snow lies on the peaks — a surreal sight when orange trees are still blooming in the valley below. Day trips into the Atlas are possible from December to February and offer a striking landscape of snow-capped peaks and green valleys.
