The best time to visit Thailand (Khao Lak) is January, February, and December. In summer, temperatures rise to 33°C; in winter they can drop to 23°C. All climate data are based on historical monthly averages (2005–2025) to help you plan the optimal travel time.
Khao Lak sits on the Andaman coast and has one of Thailand's most pronounced monsoons. September brings around 700 mm of rain across twenty days, and every month from May to October exceeds 480 mm. Against that stand January at 70 mm and February at 50 mm — the same stretch of coast at both extremes.
The travel season is correspondingly clear: November to March. Highs then sit at 31–33°C, the Andaman Sea at 28–30°C, and the sun shines seven to eight hours a day. By September that falls to 4.2 hours. Many hotels and dive operators close entirely during the rainy season, which sharply limits the choice out of season.
The main reason for the seasonality lies underwater: the Similan Islands, one of Southeast Asia's finest dive areas, open as a national park from roughly mid-October to mid-May each year and close for the rest. Anyone coming for the Similans is therefore working to an administrative window rather than a weather one — and should check the current dates before booking.
