February is among the best months in Brazil (Salvador da Bahia): only 5 rain days, 31°C (88°F) highs, and good sunshine make for ideal holiday conditions.
Daytime highs average 31°C (88°F), cooling to 26°C (79°F) at night (daily average: 28°C (82°F)). Peaks reach around 32°C (90°F), the coldest nights around 23°C (73°F). The sun shines an average of 9 hours per day; there are 5 rain days with 39 mm (1.5 in) total. The water is a warm 28°C (82°F) — perfect for snorkelling and swimming.
Pack light summer clothing, sunscreen, and swimwear — beach and water conditions in February are ideal.
High summer on the Bahia coast: the beaches of Porto da Barra and Itapuã are full, the sun shines a lot and the sea is bath-warm. The city celebrates, from the New Year festivities to the February Carnival with street parades and trios elétricos. Accommodation is expensive and booked out early.
In the Rio Vermelho district, hundreds of thousands of devotees bring flowers, perfume and gifts for the sea goddess Iemanjá, which fishermen carry out to sea in baskets. Celebrations continue on the beach and in the streets well into the night.
Salvador's street carnival follows two main routes: along the seafront between Barra and Ondina, and through the centre from Campo Grande. The music comes from trios elétricos, trucks with stages and sound systems, followed by blocos and huge crowds.
