Still off-season — flights and hotels significantly cheaper than in August.
July in Brazil (Salvador da Bahia) is generally manageable, but with 10 rain days it's not a reliably sunny month. Better conditions can be found in January, February, March, August, September, October, November, and December.
Daytime highs average 28°C (82°F), cooling to 23°C (73°F) at night (daily average: 25°C (77°F)). Peaks reach around 29°C (84°F), the coldest nights around 19°C (66°F). The sun shines an average of 7 hours per day; there are 10 rain days with 70 mm (2.8 in) total. The water is a warm 26°C (79°F) — perfect for snorkelling and swimming.
Light clothing is enough — the evenings stay mild too. Good conditions for sightseeing and excursions.
Rainy season: heavy showers, often several times a day, alternate with friendly spells, and the sea is still warm. The city is quieter, prices fall, and in June the São João festivities with fireworks, music and corn dishes bring atmosphere to the whole north-east.
Bahia's public holiday commemorates the expulsion of Portuguese troops from Salvador in 1823. A large parade with the figures of the Caboclo and Cabocla sets off in the morning from Largo da Lapinha, passes through the old town and the Pelourinho and reaches Campo Grande in the afternoon.
