Post-season — prices falling after the travel period, beaches and attractions quieter.
October in Canada (Vancouver) is on the cool side — with highs around 14°C (57°F) it's less suited for a beach holiday, but good for sightseeing away from the high season.
Daytime highs average 14°C (57°F), cooling to 9°C (48°F) at night (daily average: 11°C (52°F)). Peaks reach around 18°C (64°F), the coldest nights around 4°C (39°F). With 4 sunshine hours per day and 11 rain days (158 mm (6.2 in)), this is one of the cloudier months. At 12°C (54°F), the water is still quite cool in October — a wetsuit may be useful.
Pack warm clothing and sturdy footwear. Cool temperatures make hiking and cultural trips enjoyable — beaches are off the agenda.
Autumn returns with rain, but also with coloured leaves in Stanley Park and empty hiking trails. Days grow short, cloud thickens and prices fall. For city walks and museums October is a quiet alternative to the high season.
