Travel season — mid-range prices, good availability.
September is one of the best travel months for Alaska (Ketchikan) — conditions are stable, temperatures reach 15°C (59°F), and outdoor activities are excellent.
Daytime highs average 15°C (59°F), cooling to 10°C (50°F) at night (daily average: 13°C (55°F)). Peaks reach around 19°C (66°F), the coldest nights around 5°C (41°F). With 4 sunshine hours per day and 17 rain days (384 mm (15.1 in)), this is one of the cloudier months. At 13°C (55°F), the water is still quite cool in September — a wetsuit may be useful.
Layer up — warm days and cool evenings alternate. Perfect timing for hikes and sightseeing.
Autumn brings the heavy rain back. The last cruise ships leave in early October, the mood quietens and the rainforest steams in the cloud. Those who do not mind rain have the totem poles almost to themselves and see the town as locals know it.
