January in Vietnam (Hanoi) at 20°C (68°F) is too cool for a beach holiday, but suitable for sightseeing and hiking. The best travel months are March, April, and November.
Daytime highs average 20°C (68°F), cooling to 15°C (59°F) at night (daily average: 17°C (63°F)). Peaks reach around 27°C (81°F), the coldest nights around 8°C (46°F). With 3 sunshine hours per day and 5 rain days (48 mm (1.9 in)), this is one of the cloudier months.
A jacket for cool evenings should not be left behind. Sightseeing and excursions can be enjoyed comfortably at this time of year.
Hanoi in its best season: dry from November, temperatures between 18 and 25°C (64 and 77°F), ideal for exploring the 36 streets of the Old Quarter and taking boat trips in Ha Long Bay. Tet in January/February is the highlight of the year — peach blossom and fireworks at Hoan Kiem Lake.
Vietnam's most important festival. There are midnight fireworks at Hoan Kiem Lake, and the Old Quarter's flower markets burst into peach-blossom pink. In the days beforehand, the Quảng Bá flower market by West Lake makes an unforgettable impression.
