Travel season — mid-range prices, good availability.
January is among the best months in Mexico (Yucatán): only 3 rain days, 30°C (86°F) highs, and good sunshine make for ideal holiday conditions.
Daytime highs average 30°C (86°F), cooling to 19°C (66°F) at night (daily average: 24°C (75°F)). Peaks reach around 33°C (91°F), the coldest nights around 11°C (52°F). The sun shines an average of 7 hours per day; there are 3 rain days with 43 mm (1.7 in) total. Sea temperature is 24°C (75°F) — pleasantly warm for long swim sessions.
Pack light summer clothing, sunscreen, and swimwear — beach and water conditions in January are ideal.
Pleasant days for what people come here for: Maya ruins, cenotes and colonial towns such as Mérida and Valladolid. The heat is bearable, nights are fresh, and the Caribbean is warm enough for swimming. No wonder this is the main season, with cenotes and ruins busy accordingly.
For Mérida's founding day on 6 January, around two weeks of free concerts, dance and theatre take place on the Plaza Grande and in the old town.
