Off-season — lowest travel prices with still acceptable climate.
April in California (Los Angeles) at 22°C (72°F) is too cool for a beach holiday, but suitable for sightseeing and hiking. The best travel months are June, July, August, September, and October.
Daytime highs average 22°C (72°F), cooling to 14°C (57°F) at night (daily average: 17°C (63°F)). Peaks reach around 31°C (88°F), the coldest nights around 9°C (48°F). With 10 sunshine hours per day, April is one of the sunniest months — 14 mm (0.6 in) of rain over 1 day. At 14°C (57°F), the water is still quite cool in April — a wetsuit may be useful.
A jacket for cool evenings should not be left behind. Sightseeing and excursions can be enjoyed comfortably at this time of year.
After the winter rains the hills are green, wildflowers colour the slopes and the days grow noticeably longer. Hollywood and Santa Monica fill up gradually, but the coastal sky often stays grey until midday, which locals call "May Gray". For hiking it is ideal.
