Peak season — flights and hotels at their annual highest. Book early.
August is one of the best travel months for Alaska (Seward) — conditions are stable, temperatures reach 17°C (63°F), and outdoor activities are excellent.
Daytime highs average 17°C (63°F), cooling to 11°C (52°F) at night (daily average: 13°C (55°F)). Peaks reach around 23°C (73°F), the coldest nights around 5°C (41°F). Layer up — warm days and cool evenings alternate. Perfect timing for hikes and sightseeing.
High summer on the bay: day boats to the glaciers are full, sea otters and sea lions lie on the rocks, and silver salmon run along the shore. The air is mild, though the rain picks up towards August. Anyone heading out on the water should pack warm clothing.
A fishing tournament since 1956: the goal is the heaviest silver salmon from Resurrection Bay.
