Still off-season — flights and hotels significantly cheaper than in May.
April in Alaska (Seward) is on the cool side — with highs around 7°C (45°F) it's less suited for a beach holiday, but good for sightseeing away from the high season.
Temperatures reach a maximum of 7°C (45°F) during the day and drop to 1°C (34°F) at night — warm layers recommended. Peaks reach around 14°C (57°F), the coldest nights around -6°C (21°F) — frost does occur. The sun shines an average of 9 hours per day; there are 9 rain days with 82 mm (3.2 in) total. At 5°C (41°F), the water is still quite cool in April — a wetsuit may be useful.
Pack warm clothing and sturdy footwear. Cool temperatures make hiking and cultural trips enjoyable — beaches are off the agenda.
A bright early summer: Seward is among the sunniest spots on the Alaska coast, days are long and the mountain backdrop is clear. The first boats head into Kenai Fjords, and humpback whales and puffins appear. Little rain and lower prices make these weeks the best time to come.
