Da Nang and the Central Vietnamese coast have a climate that differs markedly from northern and southern Vietnam. From February to August it is predominantly dry and sunny — ideal for the beach and for exploring the nearby imperial city of Huế or the old-town gem of Hội An. From September to January, the north-east monsoon brings heavy rainfall and occasionally typhoons to the region.
The best travel time for Da Nang is March to May: the rainy season is over, temperatures still manageable (typically 27–32°C), and the beaches less crowded than in high summer. In June and July, temperatures rise to over 32–33°C as a monthly average, and humidity makes sightseeing in the city exhausting.
Typhoons are the most significant climate risk for central Vietnam. The typhoon season runs from October to December and can put coastal regions underwater within hours. Travellers should choose especially flexible bookings during this period and take local weather warnings seriously.
