Still off-season — flights and hotels significantly cheaper than in May.
April in Norway (Fjord Norway) at 11°C (52°F) is too cool for a beach holiday, but suitable for sightseeing and hiking. The best travel months are May, June, July, August, and September.
Temperatures reach a maximum of 11°C (52°F) during the day and drop to 4°C (39°F) at night — warm layers recommended. Peaks reach around 18°C (64°F), the coldest nights around -2°C (28°F) — frost does occur. The sun shines an average of 7 hours per day; there are 10 rain days with 124 mm (4.9 in) total. At 7°C (45°F), the water is still quite cool in April — a wetsuit may be useful.
Pack warm clothing and sturdy footwear. Cool temperatures make hiking and cultural trips enjoyable — beaches are off the agenda.
Snowmelt sends the waterfalls roaring, the orchards in Hardanger are in blossom and the days lengthen fast. With six to seven hours of sunshine a day this is the most dependable time for fjord trips; up on the mountain passes some roads may still carry snow.
