August is one of the best travel months for Alaska (Juneau) — conditions are stable, temperatures reach 17°C (63°F), and outdoor activities are excellent.
Daytime highs average 17°C (63°F), cooling to 11°C (52°F) at night (daily average: 14°C (57°F)). Peaks reach around 23°C (73°F), the coldest nights around 7°C (45°F). Layer up — warm days and cool evenings alternate. Perfect timing for hikes and sightseeing.
High summer in Juneau: long days, a full harbour every day, and whale-watching boats leaving by the hour. It is mild but rarely properly warm, and cloud comes with the territory. Salmon run up the rivers and bears appear along the creeks.
This salmon fishing tournament has run every year since 1947, over three days in the waters around Juneau.
