Peak season — flights and hotels at their annual highest. Book early.
July is one of the best travel months for Alaska (Skagway) — conditions are stable, temperatures reach 18°C (64°F), and outdoor activities are excellent.
Daytime highs average 18°C (64°F), cooling to 12°C (54°F) at night (daily average: 15°C (59°F)). Peaks reach around 24°C (75°F), the coldest nights around 8°C (46°F). With 4 sunshine hours per day and 6 rain days (42 mm (1.7 in)), this is one of the cloudier months. At 13°C (55°F), the water is still quite cool in July — a wetsuit may be useful.
Layer up — warm days and cool evenings alternate. Perfect timing for hikes and sightseeing.
High season: the main street is full of cruise guests, and the gold-rush façades are among the most photographed sights on the Inside Passage. It is mild and mostly dry, though cloud comes more often than in spring. Early in the morning or in the evening the town belongs to the hikers.
Skagway's Independence Day with a children's parade, a big parade along Broadway and the Chamber of Commerce's "Ducky Derby".
