Deep off-season — very low prices, but weather conditions are suboptimal.
November is the coldest winter month in Alaska (Skagway) — with highs of only 3°C (37°F), it holds little appeal for sun-seekers. Better travel in May, June, July, August, and September.
Temperatures reach a maximum of 3°C (37°F) during the day and drop to -1°C (30°F) at night — warm layers recommended. Peaks reach around 8°C (46°F), the coldest nights around -10°C (14°F) — frost does occur. With 2 sunshine hours per day and 8 rain days (65 mm (2.6 in)), this is one of the cloudier months. At 8°C (46°F), the water is still quite cool in November — a wetsuit may be useful.
Pack warm clothing and sturdy footwear. Cool temperatures make hiking and cultural trips enjoyable — beaches are off the agenda.
A gold-rush town in hibernation: the main street lies silent, snow and frost cover the wooden fronts, and the surrounding mountains stand white. Winter storms whistle through the valley, and on clear days the sky glitters. Only a small community stays, and visitors are rare.
